The Scarecrow works as advertised and has made a dramatic decrease in the number of presents the neighbors pets leave in our yard. The only thing that I didn't like about this product is that it is made in China instead of the USA.

I bought the Scarecrow with the intention of using it to keep my dog out of a particular area of the yard. It works. Plus, it waters the lawn. A great (and lest costly) alternative to an invisible fence, where applicable.

My husband purchased the Contech Scarecrow motion-activated sprinkler because he was sick and tired of getting up every morning and finding dog poop on our grass. We don't own a dog! After hearing about this product from a friend, he went right to the computer and ordered it. WE LOVE IT! It's been operating for the past several months and we have not had ONE pile on our grass since he put it in. It's very sensitive to movement on the lawn or people walking by on the sidewalk. It gives a good spray for several seconds and makes a slight ticking sound that scares the animals off. We know it won't harm the animal, which is important to us, and it won't harm the environment. We've had excellent results and highly recommend this to anyone who is experiencing problems with unwanted animals in their yard.

My current purchase of a Contech scarecrow will be a spare for the two I've had in operation for about 2 years now. When I first bought one my primary concern was to keep the deer away from the flowers and bushes on my lawn and in this case it has worked extremely well. It has conditioned them to the point where they don't even come around anymore and the newborn learn quickly to stay away as well. It also works for cats to the extent that mine has learned to walk the outer limits of it's range. As for raccoons, forget about it! In the warm weather they really love it and it seems they even use it to bathe as they spend quite some time getting wet and preening themselves into the wee hours. Some things to be aware of are: If you do have raccoons don't use an ordinary hose to hook it up. They will bite throuh it in no time and render it useless. Use some type of armored hose such as Armadillo brand, stainless braided washing machine hose(comes in 6' lengths) or plastic sprinkler pipe under ground(my choice)to make your connection. If there are bushes you want to protect, as I do, it's obvious the unit can't see through them so if the deer can sneak up the back and eat they will. A low 3 foot fence in back of them will herd the deer to the end of the fence to an open area where they can be detected by the scarecrow; this worked very well for me. Also remember bushes and tall plants move in the wind and they will set off the unit as well. For this reason it is best that you don't use the unit up to it's maximum range. By shortening the range at which you install the unit it will work in such a way that you can reduce the sensitivity on breezy days and still be effective. Oh yes, and then there are the woodpeckers who have learned to swoop in front of the unit to set it off in hopes of getting a drink; especially if I'm late filling the bird bath with water. And that brings us to the battery. Under my conditions I have found a One Month lifetime is all that can be expected and I don't dare stretch it any furthr and leave the grounds unprotected for even one night; you never know. All in all a great device when used correctly. It allowed me to keep my yard open and fence free so it could blend uninterrupted into the surrounding woodlands.
